La Seiko AGS (système de génération automatique), introduite en Allemagne en janvier 1988, a été la première montre à quartz au monde à être équipée d'un système de génération automatique d'énergie. Un groupe électrogène ultra-compact a été intégré, de sorte que l'AGS n'avait pas de batterie à remplacer. Lancée à une époque où les problèmes écologiques mondiaux étaient au centre des préoccupations du public, l'AGS était présentée comme une montre révolutionnaire qui allait lancer une nouvelle ère de montres à quartz.

Ein ultrakompaktes Stromerzeugungsmodul wurde integriert, sodass bei der AGS kein Batteriewechsel erforderlich war.
